This is really what it's like over here

Did you hear the story of the thirsty baby who asked six other people to reach his water cup off the counter?

Well, those six people were too busy to get the water cup and so this resourceful baby went into the bathroom and got a wet washcloth to suck water off of.

A washcloth from the bottom of the tub. A nice sloppy wet one.

So what is said baby doing now while I type this blog post? Well, he's next to me admiring the photos of himself on the computer.

And this folks, this is what it's really like around here.

Weekend Recap #1

Okay everyone, I am going to try to start a new meme designed to keep family and dear friends informed about our activities.  Hopefully every Monday you can come and see what we've been doing!

We started our weekend by celebrating James' 11th birthday!

Check out this great card Isaac made for James. It's a tractor and the birthday message is on the barrel of hay.

We took advantage of the sunshine and went to the skate park.

Only one injury with tears the whole time we were there. That must be some kind of record for us!

Keystone Lake and ice cream were also part of our weekend.

We enjoyed the time spent with Mema and Pepa and were happy to welcome Papa home on Sunday!

Check back next week for another Weekend Recap!

7 Quick Takes: All About James

~~ONE~~

James was born in Boston, MA.

~~TWO~~

He got his first pair of glasses at eight months of age.

~~THREE~~

He became a big brother at 19 months old.

~~FOUR~~
By age three James had visited three foreign countries and Canada.

~~FIVE~~

Although he hated soccer when he first played at age three, he loves it now.

~~SIX~~

If you were to ask him today what he wants to be when he grows up, he would tell you he wants to do something that involves math and LEGOS, but not play the piano for a job.

~~SEVEN~~

Today is James' eleventh birthday.

Happy Birthday to my sweet James!

7 Quick Takes

~~ONE~~

My brother bought my grandmother's house a few years ago and has changed the downstairs rec rooms into a home theater. It is too cool not to share the link the tells the story of how it came to be and also shows before and after photos. He should really have a blog that describes all the cool stuff he's doing with the house. He doesn't agree, but click the link to check out the transformation and decide for yourself.

~~TWO~~

Look who finished Shurley Grammar for the year!

~~THREE~~

Unlike other homeschooling families, once we finish a curriculum for the year, we are done. I rarely start the next level before we have to for the next schooling year. I love this time of year because our school day becomes shorter and we are able to play more and enjoy the increasingly beautiful weather.

~~FOUR~~

Someone was happy to find the markers had been left unattended.

~~FIVE~~

Less than a month until my kids present history projects to their recitation group.

Isaac is doing clocks, James is doing Medieval history, and Henry is doing trains.

~~SIX~~

Part of James' project requires a bunch of cooking, following medieval recipes.

Meat pie.

Roasted chicken.

Herb bread. Yes, he did make these dishes himself, although I insisted on helping him get them in and out of the oven.

~~SEVEN~~

My sweet Margie is sick. No fever, but she has thrown up a few times, one of those times at our recitation/ book club yesterday. Sorry Ronni and Debbie! Hopefully she is better soon.

Jen is still on a break with her sweet baby, so head over to visit Grace and read more Quick Takes.

Theme Thursday: Boys

Finally a Theme Thursday over at Clan Donaldson that I can relate to. I am kind of cheating on this one because although I did indeed take this photo, I took it last summer in Boston. But for me it is the 110 percent perfect example of boys. Especially my boys.

Even just thinking about this picture makes me smile.

Head over to Theme Thursday to see more and link up your own!

Product Review & Giveaway: This Is Our Time Movie

Occasionally I am offered the chance to review inspiring and faith-based movies on this blog. Since I am always looking for good family-friendly movies I usually accept the offer and receive a free copy of the movie in exchange for the blog review.

I recently received This Is Our Time. This motivational film follows five college friends the year after graduation. At a time in their lives when the phrase "seize the day" is a reality, these friends share in the joys and struggles of entering "the real world." Through faith and friendship they are able to share in each others happiness and failures. When tragedy strikes they are forced to find the courage to follow the Lord's path. Through this they achieve true love and happiness.

I enjoyed watching this movie, although I thought many of the themes it presented were too mature for my sheltered TV-free kids. Although nothing was visually inappropriate, most of the context went over their heads. I do think that this movie would be very appropriate for families with older teens or for mom and dad to enjoy movie night on their own.

I have generously been offered a copy of this movie for one of my readers. Simply leave a comment describing a time you felt called by God to lead your life differently. Be sure I have a way to contact you if my daughter chooses your comment from those submitted. She'll choose a number and that comment will be the winner.

If you don't win a copy of the movie and still want to check it out, I recommend purchasing the movie through Family Christian Stores. You'll be helping an honest retailer and gaining a good family flick.

DISCLAIMER: As stated above, I received a free copy of This Is Our Time in exchange for an honest review on this blog. I received no other compensation and all opinions are my own.

7 Quick Takes

~~ONE~~

I love how cute language is during the early childhood years! Margaret says "Good grief!" instead of "Good thing." She even intones it so that it sounds like she is going to exclaim about a negative event.

"Good grief we have such a big garage for all our bikes and toys."

"Good grief this castle next to my bed is big for my Barbies."

It always makes us smile and chuckle.

~~TWO~~

The academic homeschooling program we are trying to start has finally begun to move forward. After several months of searching we have been accepted at the most amazing location. It is a church right off Hwy 30 that has a whole school wing that we will be able to use.  Now time to update the website and get moving on other planning aspects.

~~THREE~~

Somebody got new glasses:

~~FOUR~~

It's strange because he is about to turn eleven and everything about him suddenly seems older. I am already over the halfway point with him and now it seems not only that my time with him is limited, but what time we have left is going twice as fast.

~~FIVE~~

We had our first weekend of double soccer games last weekend. We survived and even enjoyed it. I think as long as the weather is decent we can get through joyfully.

~~SIX~~

Hey, we got our new flights to come out west this summer. Our original flights got changed so we had to cancel them and rebook on a different airline. Still an overnight flight, but we'll survive.

~~SEVEN~~

Did you know we researched flights and then went back to book less than 24 hours later and the fares had gone up a hundred dollars a ticket?!?! I think there is something fishy with that. Like the airlines are tracking your searches or something. I should have run over to Allison's to see if the same fare was on her internet connection.

Congrats to Jen on the new baby! Makes me anxious for our little (adopted) bundle to arrive. No there's been no new news. Head over to Conversion Diary to ohh and ahh.

A Day at the Zoo

Margaret was treated to a special day at the zoo with her very best friend.
