7 Quick Takes

1. Lately I feel like I have used up all my parenting wisdom for my children. Instead of a long explanation that could be part of a life lesson, I now get right to the point by saying, "Don't [enter current infraction] because you could die." Of course, I use this more when the offending child is doing something potentially dangerous, but not always. Sometimes it is just the thing to say. I may be over-using my new favorite phrase because I overheard Margaret telling Henry, "You could dwie if you leeb yur jammies on the loor." At least I know someone is listening to me.

2. I got an iphone for my birthday. And no, it's not my birthday for another month. But AT+T is running a special where the iphone 1 is only $45 if you qualify for an upgrade. Those of you who know me know this is a big step for me. I brought it home and then didn't touch it for three days. It's fancy.

3. Halloween is coming up fast. We never really 'did' Halloween until we moved here. It's a pretty big deal. Okay, okay. It's a HUGE deal. More people decorate for Halloween than for Christmas. So we allow the kids to participate as long as they are Saints. That way I have Halloween and the All Saints Day Party (thanks Debbie!) covered. So far I have sewn zero items for the costumes. So far I have bought three costumes and gotten accessories for a fourth. Not that we have all this extra dough laying around to spend on costumes. But a gal has got to do what a gal has got to do, and this year the gal has to purchase the costumes.

4. Every day the kids ask how many days until we leave for the farm. From today, about 33 days. Yeah!

5. Speaking of the farm, I always catch up on my reading while we are there. I am looking for book suggestions. I like reading novels, so no 'self-help' suggestions please.  Not that I am not totally flattered that every time I ask for good books to read I get a ton of self-help book suggestions. What is that saying about how my friends view my life? Ha Ha Ha! I am always grateful for all suggestions, but truthfully, I am not going to be reading any self-help books on my holiday.

6. Speaking of books, Dr. Smarty Pants has published a new book.

You can find it on amazon if you would like to check it out.

7. Isaac's soccer ends this week, which brings our days at the soccer park down from five to three. Am I excited about this? HECK YEAH!

You have an iPhone? Really? Wow, I think I might have some tech jealousy. All I have is a cheap, pre-paid slide phone from Virgin Mobile. ;0)

Halloween is a really big deal here, too. I think we had about 300 trick-or-treaters here last year. That is not an exaggeration. We had huge bags of candy and still ran out. They do a parade and everything. And since we live on small-town main street, everyone basically just lines up and goes down one side and up the other side. Kids come from other towns, even.

I am right there with you Susan. Our town sounds exactly like yours. Our town also has trick or treating on the Saturday before Halloween, although the other nearby towns don't. So people drive over to our town and trick or treat and then do it again in their own town on Halloween. Of course we could do that as well, but it is just too much.
