Protecting the home front

Me: "I don't want you guys bringing all those toys downstairs."

Boy: "They're not toys, they're weapons."

Natural History Museum

We took the kids (and some neighborhood friends) to the Natural History Museum. They love to see the dinosaurs and there is a new whale exhibit- sorry, no photos were allowed in the whale exhibit.

I seriously think that out of all the things that we purchase for the kids, the museum membership is the most worthwhile. It is kind of pricey ($200 for one year), but it allows Michael and I to bring in up to eight additional people. Margaret isn't old enough to count as a spot, so basically we can bring a whole other family with us when we go. It is good for four Pittsburgh-area museums as well as reciprocal museums all over the USA. We have gotten into OMSI several times with this membership, and we are looking forward to using it as we drive across the country this summer. The best part of this is that it provides hours of entertainment, but doesn't take up any space in my house!

New Headboard

Michael made a headboard for our bed for Christmas out of the old door we removed from the basement stairs. He stripped it and stained it. It is the first time we have ever had a headboard and I am so exicted to sit in bed and read now. I think it turned out beautifully!

Deal of the Week!

This Icecream Science kit was on a super after-Christmas markdown sale, and I got an additional 15% off using my teacher discount card. It was a fun and educational afternoon.

Each of the boys got to create his own kind of icecream. They even got to color the icecream. We had a bright green strawberry flavor, a gray chocolate strawberry, and a blue chocolate. Yuck!

Pinewood Derby

Last week was the Boy Scout Pinewood Derby. James is getting better at designing his car, and this year his car finished the race. Isaac was allowed to go and watch. He can hardly wait to be a Boy Scout next year.

Queen for a day

Henry: "Mama, can I play with your hair?"

Me: "Yes."

Henry: "Mama, how does a queen do her hair?"

Me: "I am not really sure. I think it just fluffs around."

Henry (tossing my hair around): "Fluff, fluff, fluff."

Deal of the Week!

Part of the problem with decluttering the house is when I take stuff to the thrift store I like to have a look around. Apparently everyone around here is decluttering because the place was filled with good finds. I came home only with this:Total money spent: $3.00 plus tax.

Deal of the week

Patience and bargain hunting really do pay off. The problem is that I rarely have enough patience to be patient. Our pantry was always a mess. Things were thrown together in bins and located in three different locations in our basement. Due to this, we were often buying items that we didn't need, because we couldn't locate items that we knew we had. When I took a bag of items to the thirft store, I decided to have a quick look around. Here is our pantry before: Here is what I found. A beautiful pantry! This baby cost me only ten dollars!
I can't wait to find the time to fill it up!

Snow!

We have taken advantage of all the snow by going sledding throughout the week. Here are some photos from one of our adventures to campus for sledding.

Henry's Birthday
