Operation Christmas Child

Are you looking for a way to help others during this season of giving? Consider Operation Christmas Child by Samaritan's Purse. This organization distributes shoe boxes filled with goodies to needy children worldwide. It's really easy to participate. You choose the age and sex of the child that you would like to provide for. Then you fill a shoebox with goodies for that child. There is even a list of suggestions that you can print out and take shopping with you. The boys and I packed two boxes. One for a boy age 5 to 9, and another for a girl age 10 to 14. Some of the items we filled the boxes with were: toy cars, lego sets, crayons, candy, art kits, silly bands, toothbrush, and toothpaste. I took the kids with me to the store to let them choose the items. They had a great time finding items they thought these kids would like.
You can wrap the box, but not the items. Then you can go on-line and print up these labels so that you are able to track your box as it travels the world. The cost to ship the box is only $7.00. Pretty reasonable considering your box may end up at an orphange in Africa!

Since many of the boxes travel to other countries of the world, the deadline for contributing is coming up quickly. Most drop-off places will only be collecting for one week: the week of November 15. Click here to visit the website, view guidelines for packing a shoebox, and find a collection point near you!
